Can the month still be open?

Yes. If May is still open, a forward answer about the year is a guess, and we will say so. The close comes first. An open month is a stack of items nobody named. Ordinary, and fixable. We name them, we match what the bank will support, and we leave a short list of what is still open rather than hiding it inside a round number.

Who runs payday?

Payday stays yours, on the provider you pick, once setup is finished. Setup can include the registrations, the map of pay items, and the first look at whether wages belong in the picture at all. After that Friday, or whichever day you pay, is yours. We will not take the login and become the company that runs payroll. If a notice about a deposit arrives later, we can read it against the months. Reading a notice is not the same as running the pay date.

A year with profit and no retirement plan is a separate question from payday. A plan can be a useful place for cash that would otherwise arrive as a surprise balance. We will talk about it only when the profit is real and the month is closed. A worksheet with no bank behind it is not a reason to open a plan.

Who prepares the return?

Some years the math is kind and some years it is a wash, and the only honest version uses the profit the bank already agreed with.

Estimates belong in the same fall conversation. A balance due in April is often a year of light quarterly payments, not a surprise the return invented. We would rather name the gap while a retirement contribution or a timing choice can still be made. We will not promise the gap can be erased. The point is that you see the cash while the year is still open.

Contractors who need a January form should be on a list by autumn. We will say which vendors look like they need one and which are still missing a taxpayer name. We do not treat those forms as a side hobby. They are part of getting the year ready so the return is not a scramble.
